Good Southern Cooking at its Best!

Rachel's Restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat lunch or dinner. I eat out a lot; I don't like fast food and I don't want to spend $20-30+ on every meal, either. She has great southern cooking. You choose your meat and you choose your vegetables from a wide variety. The menu options change daily. I love their vegetable plates. They have wonderful choices such as sweet potato casserole and/or souffle, green beans, cabbage, stewed tomatoes, rutabagas (the best!), corn, peas, lima beans, etc... most anything you can think of. There are a variety of great meats as well as a variety of good (but not great) desserts. Their cakes are a little dry. Rachel's is a small restaurant, but what is mainly lacking at Rachel's is good service. She has young people waiting on tables. A few are too slow and too chatty with the other young people working there. They also can't seem to remember more than 1-2 things at once, so if you ask for more tea, a to-go box, and your check, your waittress will probably only remember 1-2 of those items! Sometimes I can hear "ORDER UP" yelled from the back, too, which subtracts from my enjoying my meal. Inappropriate service habits like these are annoying. Because of the inadequate service, the atmosphere is not what it could be. If she hired better waittresses, it would definitely be my favorite restaurant in the area.
